The 18-year-old dude who died in a “random” shooting in Newcastle, NSW has been identified as Ekam Sahni, a local lad. He was hanging out at the Bar Beach carpark around 11.40pm, near Merewether Beach, when a white Volvo SUV rolled up. Then, out comes a dude with a rifle and starts shooting, hitting poor Ekam before taking off. The cops are on the hunt for this trigger-happy fella.
Paramedics tried to save the teen, but he didn’t make it. Now, there are two crime scenes and the big shot detectives are on the case. Acting Superintendent Steve Benson says they’re not sure what exactly went down, but they know it wasn’t related to a brawl earlier that night. The victim took a bullet to the upper torso and despite the medics’ efforts, he didn’t survive.
The stolen white Volvo used in the shooting was found burnt out not too far from the crime scene. One witness said the victim was bothering him and his buddies in the car park before things took a turn for the worse. This kind of violence is not cool, says Police Minister Yasmin Catley.
