More than 30 schools are set to close as severe weather continues to wreak havoc in parts of NSW. The NSW SES has issued a warning to stay indoors due to heavy rain and damaging winds in areas including Port Macquarie, Taree, and Kempsey. Flash flooding is expected to cause chaos in the coming days, with multiple flood warnings already in place across the Hunter, Mid North Coast, and Coffs Coast regions.
Schools in the Mid North Coast, Central Coast, and Hunter regions will be temporarily closed as a safety precaution. Students will receive learning resources to continue their education from home. The decision to close schools is made with the safety of students and staff in mind, according to NSW Department of Education deputy secretary Deb Summerhayes.
Chief Superintendent Andrew Cribb of the NSW SES warns of record-breaking rainfall and the possibility of evacuations in some areas. Flights have been canceled at Newcastle Airport, roads are flooded, and homes are at risk of rising waters in Dora Creek. The severe weather alert covers a wide area from Wyong to Nambucca Heads, with Sydney also bracing for wet weather in the coming days. Stay safe and stay indoors until the storm passes.
