A set of World War Two medals discovered by police in the City of Moreton Bay in Queensland have been reunited with their rightful owners. Police recently appealed for public assistance after they found the medals during the search of a Strathpine property in relation to another matter.
The medals had been posthumously awarded to Australian soldier Clarence James Jones, who died as a prisoner of war in south-east Asia. Police said they were “inundated” with reports from the public and were able to track down the rightful owner, Jones’ grandson Robert MacCallum.
MacCallum and his cousin Kathleen thanked police for finding and returning the medals. A 22-year-old Kippa Ring man has been charged with possessing suspected stolen property and will re-appear in court on January 13.
