So, like, um, why did it rain so much and why didn’t anyone see it coming, you know? New data from Weatherzone, like, totally reports that this super crazy May deluge brought over half a metre – or 500mm – of rain in just three days. Mount Seaview got a whopping 614.2mm in 72 hours up until 9am on Thursday, and more than 500mm was recorded at Taree Airport, Mount Barrington, Mooral Creek, and Comboyne Public School.
Ben Domensino from Weatherzone, like, said the main thing causing all this rain was a “near-stationary low pressure trough interacting with a stagnant pool of cold upper-level air and a relentless stream of moisture-laden winds.” He also mentioned that the landscape in eastern NSW was already wet before this week’s rain, which made the flooding even worse, you know? Like, not really sure why this matters, but it definitely made things pretty intense out there.
So, like, Mother Nature really decided to show her power with this insane rainfall, huh? I mean, 500mm in just three days is no joke! The combination of that low pressure trough, cold air, and moisture-filled winds really did a number on eastern NSW. And, like, the fact that the area was already wet beforehand just made everything way worse, you know? Not really sure what we did to deserve all this rain, but hey, Mother Nature works in mysterious ways, right? Just gotta roll with the punches and hope for some sunshine soon.
