In a shocking turn of events, illegal fireworks have caused chaos in Melbourne’s north during New Year’s Eve celebrations. Police were inundated with over 280 reports of fireworks-related incidents across Victoria. Amidst the chaos, a teenager fell victim to a stabbing on the Mornington Peninsula, and authorities managed to seize a staggering 18 weapons at various train stations throughout the city.

Teenager Stabbed in Blairgowrie

The incident unfolded around 5:45 pm when two teenage boys were arrested following a stabbing in Blairgowrie. The victim, walking along Point Nepean Road, was approached by a group that included the two boys. Allegedly, one of the boys proceeded to stab the victim multiple times before the group hastily fled the scene. Thankfully, the victim was rushed to the hospital with injuries that were deemed non-life-threatening. Subsequently, a 16-year-old Yarra boy was charged with intentionally causing injury and is set to appear in a children’s court at a later time. The second 16-year-old boy was released pending further investigation.

Weapons Seized Across Melbourne

Meanwhile, Melbourne’s streets and train stations were swarming with police as revelers basked in the New Year’s Eve festivities. A total of 14 arrests were made in the CBD, with an alarming 18 weapons seized at train stations. Among the confiscated items were hunting knives, scissors, imitation firearms, swords, and even a machete. In a separate incident, officers apprehended a man in St Kilda in possession of drugs and five knives. Additionally, a concerning 52 assault-related incidents were reported throughout the night.

Illegal Fireworks and Fires

To add fuel to the fire, officers uncovered illegal fireworks, including two large plastic containers at Safety Beach on the Mornington Peninsula. Authorities are preparing to interview a man in connection with the illegal fireworks. The police expressed disappointment at the numerous fire-related incidents that unfolded, including three fires reported in Glenroy, Kurunjang, and Greenvale. Detectives are actively investigating these incidents, which occurred just a week after a tragic fireworks-related death in Kalkallo.
