So, like, Labor is totally killing it in the polls right now. They’re like, in the box seat to win the upcoming federal election on Saturday. A key poll just came out, showing Labor with a solid lead over the Coalition in the two-party race. First preferences are a bit all over the place, though, with Labor holding steady at 31 percent and the Coalition creeping up to 35 percent from the last poll. The Greens and One Nation also saw a slight increase, each at 14 percent and 7 percent respectively, while support for independents dropped to 8 percent. According to 9News political editor Charles Croucher, on a two-party basis, it’s currently 53-47 in favor of Labor.
The poll, which surveyed over 2000 voters, didn’t hold back on criticizing Peter Dutton’s leadership during the campaign. His net approval rating took a nosedive to minus 24, down 6 percent in the past two weeks. Ouch. On the other hand, Anthony Albanese’s approval rating held steady at 1 percent, and he’s way ahead in the preferred prime minister race. Croucher mentioned that Albanese has a 16-point lead over Dutton. That’s pretty significant, right? It seems like Dutton’s popularity has been on a downward spiral lately, which can’t be good news for the Coalition.
But hey, there’s a glimmer of hope for the Coalition. Apparently, there are still a lot of undecided voters out there. Like, one in five people surveyed haven’t made up their minds yet. So, I guess there’s still a chance for Dutton and his crew to sway some votes their way before the election. Dutton seems unfazed by his plummeting poll numbers, though. He keeps pointing to some internal Liberal polling that supposedly shows the Coalition can still come out on top this weekend. Confidence is key, right?
In contrast, Albanese seems to be feeling pretty confident going into the final week of campaigning. He’s been making some unscripted public appearances, showing off his cool and collected demeanor. On the other hand, Dutton had to cancel one press conference due to anti-nuclear protesters and cut another one short. Talk about bad luck, right?
All in all, it’s shaping up to be an interesting election this weekend. With Labor leading the charge and the Coalition trying to play catch-up, anything could happen. Who will come out on top? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for all the latest updates on the election. Don’t forget to download the 9News app for breaking news, sports updates, political drama, and weather forecasts.
