Firefighters successfully contained a large scrub fire in Whangārei on Friday afternoon, after it had been burning in Northland for hours. The crews responded to the emergency near Hutchinson Road, close to Pataua South, at around 2 pm. By that time, the fire had already spread through three hectares of bush and pine tree slash.
