Oh man, Sydneysiders are really getting a taste of the wet and wild side of Mother Nature today. The rain just won’t quit, causing chaos all over the city. From the airport to the train lines, delays are the name of the game as flooding wreaks havoc. Sydney Olympic Park and North Parramatta have been hit the hardest, recording over 100mm of rainfall in just 24 hours. Hornsby, Auburn, Sydney Observatory Park, and Sydney Airport are also not spared from the downpour.
At the airport, runways had to be shut down this morning due to the inundation, leading to flight delays that are sure to make travelers groan. The airport spokesperson is urging passengers to check with their airlines for updates on their flights. Meanwhile, on the train lines, flooding has covered some tracks and disrupted services. The North Shore Line between Central and Town Hall is feeling the brunt of the flooding, causing trains to run at a snail’s pace and stops to change unexpectedly. Commuters are advised to hop on the Metro services between Central, Chatswood, and Epping to avoid the chaos.
But wait, there’s more! The Leppington and Inner West, Liverpool and Inner West, Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra, and Sydney Trains Airport and South lines are all experiencing delays due to flooding at Bardwell Park and Bexley North. Even the Central Coast and Newcastle Line are not spared, with flooding causing issues at Cockle Creek and Sandgate. Travelers are warned to factor in extra travel time today as they navigate the soggy mess. Parramatta Wharf is also not immune to the flooding, with water levels rising and threatening the opal gates. It’s a real mess out there, folks.
